~ SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE ~

We are offering scholarships of up to $1,000.00. To be considered by this 
organization you must be a legal resident of the United States, at least a full-time
student in the public or a state government recognized private school to be 
considered for this scholarship. 

 

There are two further areas of qualification of this scholarship:

 

    a.         You must be an individual with Down syndrome seeking higher
education in any field of your choice;

or

    b.         You are student that plans on at least a bachelors degree in Special
Education or a career in helping the needs of those individuals with
Down syndrome.

2006 National Buddy Walk Statistics
Obtained from the National Down Syndrome Society (NDSS)

More than 260 walks were held in 2006 across the country
and abroad.  For a list of where registered walks were held,
please visit www.buddywalk.org and click on the "2006 Walks"
link, located under "Find A Walk".

Approximately $6,500,000 was raised nationwide through
the NDSS Buddy Walk. These funds were distributed among
sponsoring Buddy Walk Organizations and the National Down
Syndrome Society.

More than 230,000 individuals participated in a Buddy Walk
in 2006.   Since the Buddy Walk was created in 1995, over
1,750,000 people have participated in a Buddy Walk worldwide.

The Buddy Walk is a trademarked program of the National
Down Syndrome Society
and was created in 1995 to assist local
groups in their advocacy efforts in their communities. With more than
260 walks taking place each year, the National Down Syndrome
Society is able to speak with a unified and stronger voice on issues
of policy that affect individuals with Down syndrome.



Toys for differently-abled kids


Toys-R-Us has partnered with the National 
Lekotek Center to release a unique catalog for 
toys especially useful with differently-abled 
kids. You can see it online by clicking here

of the pages.  The guide was started in 1994.

Each entry describes the pu
rpose of the toy 
and why it is useful to meet the specific needs 
of kids with different abilities.

The guide is available free at Toys-R-Us stores nationwide
and has helped millions of people choose just the right
toy for the children in their lives with disabilities.
